Personal, Social, Health & Economic Education

"Intelligence plus character, that is the goal of true education."

Martin Luther King, Jr

Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education at Caister Academy equips our learners with the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live healthy, safe, productive, and fulfilled lives.  Through their learning in PSHE, students develop confidence to make informed decisions about their health, relationships, careers and managing money.

PSHE is embedded across our academy with lessons complemented by assemblies, tutor time, external visitors including the safer schools police team, medical experts, and local lifeguards. Parents are written to once a half-term (see safeguarding update letters in the safeguarding area) with information on the planned content delivery for the term ahead, to ensure that we are aware of topic sensitivities in our school community.

Content has been sequenced to reflect students' needs as based on the previous year’s behaviour and safeguarding data analysis and student surveys and follows the half termly personal development themes below:

  • Diversity and Tolerance
  • Anti-Bullying
  • Staying Safe Online and Offline
  • Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • Relationships and Sex Education
  • Rights, Responsibilities and British Values

In addition, Year 9 students follow a Finance program, and all year groups explore careers.

Our aim is to ensure every student leaves our academy as confident young adults and responsible members of society. Our PSHE program facilitates this by promoting ambition, resilience, and a sense of community, as well as an understanding of British Values and of our political system.
