Teacher training

As part of Creative Education Trust, Caister Academy is dedicated to providing teacher training which promotes creative, integrated and pro-active thinking, ready for the challenges of the 21st Century. Creative Education Trust is committed to offering trainee teachers the best opportunities to grow and learn surrounded by supportive and experienced colleagues.

School Direct is one of the teacher training routes we offer at Caister Academy. Our School Direct opportunities are offered in partnership with:

  • University of East Anglia: Placed 25th in the UK in the Complete University Guide 2022 with an international reputation for excellence in teaching and research. Trainees benefit from the regionally long-established, school partnership which ensure the best outcomes from all aspects of their teacher training journey.


The School Direct programme allows potential trainees to apply directly to Caister Academy for their teacher training. Successful applicants will have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in our school in advance of the course start date.

Government bursary funding is available to help people who wish to train in some subjects. You will find more information about fees and funding at the Get Into Teaching website.

If you already have 2 years of classroom experience (such as Teaching Assistants or Cover Supervisors) you may wish to consider a post graduate teaching apprenticeship. Teaching apprentices do not pay fees to study and earn a salary whilst developing their teaching skills in the classroom. Apprentices split their time between school and University with at least 20% of their time being spent on study.
