Young Carers

Young Carers are widely celebrated across the academy. At Caister Academy, we are committed to the academic success of young carers, supporting students to remove barriers to their education whilst supporting them with their additional responsibilities in caring. We currently hold The Young Carers Education Kitemark Tick and are signed up to the Young Carers Covenant as a record and measure of our continued dedication to strive for equal opportunities, academic and personal success for all young carers at Caister.

Caister Academy has a long standing partnership with Great Yarmouth and Gorleston Young Carers (GYGYC) who support students and families. If a student is identified in school as a young carer, the dedicated young carers teacher will liaise with families to support with an application to the charity for support if wished. Students have 1-1 sessions with the charity each week during school time.

Throughout the school year, young carers are given the opportunity to attend events and obtain rewards specific to young carers as recognition for their resilience and efforts to strive for success in school, whilst balancing additional responsibilities outside of their education. Drop in sessions are also available each week to support young carers with independent study, to raise concerns, chat with others and relax.
